Al Kipp

Al Kipp, original owner of the Pittsburgh Parrots franchise, worked in public relations/publications for DePaul for decades and was the faculty moderator of the DePaulia, affectionately known as the "old man" (when he was not yet 40). Known for his fondness for having a few "satchels" or "jugs" of beer, Al would often end up being driven home to Libertyville by Parma owner Mark Valentino after missing the last train because he was hanging out with the guys. Al also recalls that he drove a few DePaulia staffers home himself when they were, ahem, "under the weather."

Longtime bachelor Al married Cindy in the early 1990s. Al says, "It is true that I was in my 50s when we decided to do it, which the gents in Ireland would regard as the proper age for marriage." He now is a freelance writer, and he and Cindy live in South Carolina. Cindy holds an M.Ed from the National College of Education and teaches elementary grades 1-3.

Al owned the Parrots from 1978 to 1980, going out a winner with a 17-15-1 record and making the playoffs once. He was named to the DNFL Hall of Fame in 1995.
